FASTING and the IMMUNE SYSTEM

SALAM RAMADHAN DEAR READERS.......

White blood cells (right) help immune response, and they can be recycled through fasting, the study showed
The immune system is something that is highly misunderstood not just by everyday people but also by the many conventional doctors who we depend on for health advice.
Most people resort to things like synthetic vitamins and medicines (ignoring better natural alternatives) to deal with colds and improve immunity, but the cycle of sickness always seems to continue.
For people with compromised immune systems, there are many natural options, and now researchers have discovered what could well be one of the best ways to reset and recharge your immune system; one that happens to be free and is believed to work even in the elderly as well.
According to researchers at the University of Southern California, the act of fasting for as little as three days can regenerate the entire immune system, even in elderly people.

The researchers said that fasting helps the body’s stem cells to begin producing new white blood cells, which help to fight off infection.

They added that the discovery could be especially effective for people suffering from damaged immune systems, including chemotherapy patients, who were protected from the toxic impacts of the treatment during the fasting period (note: we personally don’t recommend chemotherapy; consult a holistic doctor for more information).
FLIPPING A REGENERATIVE SWITCH
As the researchers noted, the act of fasting for as little as three days can regenerate the entire immune system, even in elderly people.
“Fasting gives the ‘OK’ for stem cells to go ahead and begin proliferating and rebuild the entire system,” Prof. Valter Longo, Professor of Gerontology and the Biological Sciences at the University of Southern California, told the UK’s The Telegraph.

He added that the body actually removed parts that were damaged, old or inefficient during the fasting process, creating “literally, a new immune system.”
According to Dr. Longo a person’s system recycles unneeded immune cells, especially damaged ones, in order to create energy while they are fasting.
Over the course of his study’s trials, participants were asked to regularly fast between 2-4 days over a 6 month period.
The study was released in June and Dr. Longo said that clinical trials must still be completed, but added that the research looks “very promising.”

MEDICINES IN OLIVE OIL part 1

The health benefits of olive oil are unrivaled, and research reveals more benefits nearly every day. In fact, we are only just beginning to understand the countless ways olive oil can improve our health, and our lives.

Olive oil is the cornerstone of the Mediterranean diet — an essential nutritional mainstay for the world’s longest-living cultures. Many of the health-promoting effects of the Mediterranean diet have been attributed to olive oil consumption.

Replacing butter and other less healthy fats with olive oil has been shown to aid in the prevention of a myriad of diseases and counter effects of aging.

One prominent cardiologist recommends at least two tablespoons of extra virgin olive oil each day to enjoy the many ways olive oil can be beneficial to your health and well being.

Olive oil benefits are so extensive that it is considered a functional food with components that contribute to its overall therapeutic qualities including a reduction of risk factors of coronary heart disease, the prevention of cancers, and alterations of immune and inflammatory responses.

It IS naturally free of cholesterol, trans fat, salt, sugar, and gluten. In addition, olive oil is rich in monounsaturated fat (that’s the good kind).

It  helps protect against heart disease, aids in digestion, and has been
known to promote healthy aging.

SOME DISEASES OLIVE OIL HAS BEEN FOUND TO BE EFFECTIVE AGAINSt...

* CANCER

The phytonutrient in olive oil, oleocanthal ,mimics the effect of ibuprofen in reducing inflammation, which can decrease the risk of breast cancer and its recurrence. Squalene and lignans are among the other olive oil components being studied for their possible effects on cancer.

* HEART DISEASE

Olive oil lowers the levels of total blood cholesterol, LDL-cholesterol and triglycerides. At the same time it does not alter the levels of HDL-cholesterol (and may even raise them), which plays a protective role and prevents the formation of fatty patches, thus stimulating the elimination of the low-density lipoproteins.

Olive oil is one of the healthiest types of fat around. The monounsaturated fat in olive oil has been shown to control LDL (bad) cholesterol and raise HDL (good) cholesterol. This can potentially lower your risk of heart disease.

When you digest your food, free radicals that are naturally produced by the body can damage the cells. Free radicals from environmental factors such as dust, smog, cigarette smoke and pesticides don't help the situation. The antioxidants contained in olive oil can help fight off and repair some of the damage that free radicals can cause.

Recent studies indicate that regular consumption of olive oil can help decrease both systolic and diastolic blood pressure ( high blood pressure).

To get the best heart-healthy results from olive oil, the U.S Food and Drug Administration recommends eating two tablespoons daily.

* OXIDATIVE STRESS

Olive oil is rich in antioxidants, especially vitamin E, long thought to minimize cancer risk. Among plant oils, olive oil is the highest in monounsaturated fat, which does not oxidize in the body, and it is low in polyunsaturated fat, the kind that does oxidize.

* DIABETES

It has been demonstrated that a diet that is rich in olive oil, low in saturated fats, moderately rich in carbohydrates and soluble fiber from fruit, vegetables, pulses and grains is the most effective approach for diabetics. It helps lower “bad” low-density lipoproteins while improving blood sugar control and enhances insulin sensitivity.

* OBESITY

Although high in calories, olive oil has shown to help reduce levels of obesity.

* RHEUMATOID ARTHRITIS

Although the reasons are still not fully clear, recent studies have proved that people with diets containing high levels of olive oil are less likely to develop rheumatiod arthritis.

* OSTEOPOROSIS

A high consumption of olive oil appears to improve bone mineralization and calcification. It helps calcium absorption and so plays an important role in aiding sufferers and in preventing the onset of Osteoporosis.

* STROKES

Older individuals who consume olive oil daily may be able to protect themselves from a stroke, according to a new study from France published in the online issue of Neurology.

* Skin and Hair

The antioxidants contained in olive oil can benefit more than your heart. Because this substance prevents cell destruction, it fights the signs of aging and gives you a more youthful appearance. When applied topically, olive oil moisturizes and softens dry skin. Since the product is natural, adverse reactions are not common.

The problem with a lot of commercial skincare products is that the moisturizing ingredients don't penetrate the skin. Extra virgin olive oil is composed of more than 80 percent oleic acid. This substance easily penetrates the skin, and allows the oil to heal damage, reduce wrinkles and improve texture.

If you struggle with dry, brittle hair, keeping a bottle of olive oil handy can help. A weekly deep conditioner of olive oil can be used in the place of products that contain silicone ingredients to make the hair more manageable. Shampoos that contain sulfates will strip the moisture out of your hair and make it look drab and lifeless. Using olive oil in the place of your regular commercial conditioners can moisturize the hair and give it a healthy sheen.

HELP YOUR LIVER

Can you tell when your liver needs help? Watch out for these signs!

Knowing how to recognize the symptoms of liver disease can save your life. As with so many illnesses and diseases, liver disease, if spotted early enough, can be arrested, and cured (providing the causes have been identified and are avoided in the future), and your liver can fully recover, growing new healthy tissue to replace any that has been damaged, just as long as the disease has not been allowed to progress too far – hence the importance of knowing what the warning signs to look out for.

An organ and a gland
Your liver is the largest internal organ that you have in your body. In a healthy adult, a normal liver will weigh somewhere between 3 to 3.5 pounds and it plays a crucial role in a number of body system functions.

FUNCTION OF THE LIVER
The key functions of the liver are to detoxify your blood, and to enhance your digestive system by creating bile, which helps to break down the fats that you consume into small pieces, making them easier for your small intestine to absorb. But that’s not all. Here is a quick summary of what your liver does for you:
-It detoxes your blood, filtering out any harmful and unwanted substances like drugs and alcohol
-It produces bile to aid digestion
-It stores some of your body’s vitamins and iron
-It stores glucose
-It converts glucose into sugar that the body can use when the body’s sugar levels become depleted
-It processes hemoglobin, insulin and a variety of other hormones
-It converts ammonia into urea; an essential ingredient for healthy metabolism
-It eliminates old red blood cells, which produces fecal matter which is normally brown in color. This is why when your stools are discolored (i.e. not brown) it can be an indication there is something wrong with your liver function.
Without a healthy liver, any holistic health lifestyle will become severely compromised, and depending on the nature and severity of disease, could prove fatal; which is why it’s so important to be able to detect and interpret the earlysymptoms of liver disease.

HEPATIC DISEASES
Liver disease is also sometimes referred to as hepatic disease. When any type of hepatic disease affects up to three quarters of your liver tissue, that’s when a significant increase in liver function can be detected.

 The causes of liver disease
Liver disease can be brought about in a number of different ways.
-Its cells may be inflamed, as with hepatitis
-The passage of bile may become obstructed, as in cholestasis
-A build-up of cholesterol may occur
-The flow of blood to the liver can be damaged
-The tissue of the liver may be attacked and damaged by toxins

Alcohol abuse and cirrhosis of the liver
The most common cause of liver disease in North America is alcohol abuse. The final stage of liver disease (when the liver sustains severe scarring and cannot regenerate replacement tissue), is known as cirrhosis of the liver, and this is responsible for approximately 25,000 deaths per annum here in North America.

The classic symptoms of liver disease
The most frequent and common symptoms of liver disease include:
-Bad breath
-Black circles beneath the eyes
-Bad body odor
-Brown blemishes on the skin
-Coated tongue
-Discolored stools
-Flushed facial appearance
-Inflamed palms and soles of feet
-Swollen eyeballs
-Jaundice: the yellowing of the skin which can often also be evidenced in the whites of the eyes
-Nausea
-Pain – which is felt in the uppermost right hand quadrant of the abdomen
-Increased tendency to perspire excessively
Some people also suffer from fatigue and weight loss.

These symptoms of liver disease relate to hepatic disease in general. But there are also many different, specific, illnesses or diseases that affect the liver, and each of these has its own specific symptoms.
 Gallstones

The symptoms of liver disease that are associated with gallstones, include pain in the upper right quadrant of the abdomen; vomiting, (having eaten a fatty or greasy meal); and if the gallbladder itself becomes infected, this may also bring about a fever.

 Cirrhosis of the liver

As hepatic disease progresses and reaches the stage of cirrhosis, the following symptoms of liver disease may often appear.
-A tendency to bruise more easily. This is because the liver is no longer able to efficiently clot the blood
-Itchiness. The result of bile salts being deposited in the skin can cause itching
-Enlarged male breasts. This is a condition known as gynecomatia and can be brought about by upsetting the balance of sex hormones, and an increase in the hormone estradiol in particular.
-Erectile dysfunction. The upsetting of the balance of sex hormones can also bring about a reduction in sex drive and cause the testicles to shrink.
-Feeling confused. Feelings of confusion can arise when the levels of ammonia in the bloodstream become too high. This ammonia is normally removed from the bloodstream by a healthy liver, but when liver health is compromised, the sufferer may experience feelings of confusion.
-Feelings of lethargy. This is also potentially brought about by the increase in blood ammonia.
-Decrease in muscle tissue. A compromised liver will also reduce its production of proteins, and this can lead to the wasting of muscle.
-Swollen stomach veins.  Because blood pressure becomes increased with a cirrhotic liver, the blood flow to that liver receives can become compromised. This may result in a swelling to the veins around the stomach area.

The unusual metabolization of fats

Another of the prime is the abnormal metabolization of fats (your metabolism), which can manifest itself in the following ways:

-Elevated levels of LDL cholesterol and triglycerides, at the same time as decreased levels of HDL cholesterol.
-Hypertension or blood pressure caused by your blood vessels becoming blocked by fatty deposits. This can also potentially lead to stroke and heart attack.
-Fatty tumors and lymphomas developing in the skin
-Significant weight gain that could lead to obesity
-Difficulty in losing weight, even though you may be dieting
-A sluggishly slow metabolism
-Bloated stomach
-The appearance of cellulite
-Developing a roll of fat around the upper abdomen a.k.a. your own armchair.
Symptoms to look for with your digestive system

The symptoms of liver disease can also be seen in relation to the digestive system and can include things like:
-Constipation
-Hemorrhoids
-Indigestion and/or reflux
-The inability to tolerate alcohol
-The inability to tolerate fatty food
-Irritable bowel syndrome
Symptoms relating to blood sugar levels
The symptoms of liver damage that relate to blood sugar include things like:
-Developing a craving for sweet things
-Unstable levels of sugar in the blood, also known as hypoglycaemia
-The onset, in later life, of type II diabetes

Symptoms relating to your immune system

Poor liver health can also affect your immune system in which case the symptoms of liver disease to watch out for include:
-Developing new, allergies such as asthma, hay fever, and hives
-excessive itching
-Developing skin rashes
-An increased incidence of autoimmune disease
-Developing fibromyalgia
-An increase in the incidence of viral and bacterial infections

Spot the symptoms of liver damage and give your liver the chance to recover
The health of your liver, is not only crucial for a continued holistic health lifestyle, but is essential for any type of healthy lifestyle. The power of the liver to heal itself from many diseases brought about by alcoholic or non-alcoholic fatty liver is quite amazing; provided that the disease is spotted early; so knowing what the potential symptoms of liver disease are, as discussed above, and keeping a watchful eye out for them is absolutely crucial.

SNORING...BERDENGKUR

Excess mucus production makes snoring worse than it really is.

AVOID..

If you snore than you should avoid eating the following foods (known to increase the intensity of snoring) late in the evening:
fried foods, heavy floury foods, excessive alcohol, processed foods and dairy products.

By avoiding these foods you will be able not to snore anymore or at least lower the snoring volume. This will be achieved due to the fact that by not eating the above mentioned food mucus will not block your airways because they will be less constricted.

As nasal congestion is cleared your snoring will be more and more decreased and maybe gone.

TAKE THIS..

Here is the recipe for the juice that will make you snore-free.
Ingredients:
  • 1″ piece of ginger
  • 1/4 of a lemon
  • 2 carrots (home-grown)
  • 2 organic apples (home-grown if possible)
Juice all of the above ingredients and enjoy a good night sleep.

THE POINT OF 100 DISEASES

Zu San Li – A point of a Hundred Diseases on your Body.

Here is what will happen if you massage it!

One Japanese legend says that, once upon a time there lived a happy man who received priceless knowledge from his father – the knowledge of the longevity point or a point of a hundred diseases.
Following the advice of his father, the son massaged this point every day and he lived to see the birth and death of several emperors.

The massaging of some points is one of the oldest methods of treatment in the East, which has been used for thousands of years.
Overall, the human body has 365 points and 12 main meridians, which is the same as the number of the days and months in one year.

The effects of these massages (acupressure, finger pressure to certain points), is based on the theory of the meridians and channels that are connected to certain organs.

In Chinese medicine, the body is seen as an energy system, and therefore, the massage can affect the flow of energy and the functional activity of the organs.

The activation of the Zu San Li point causes a permanent rejuvenating and healing effect, delaying of the aging.
In China, this point is known as – “the point of longevity”
In Japan – “the point of a hundred diseases”.

Where is the magic point (Zu San Li) in our body?

The point of longevity is located below the kneecap. In order to find it, you should cover your knee with the palm of the same hand. The point is located between the ends of the little finger and ring finger, in the form of a small dent between the bones.

You can find in another way as well.

You have to sit on the floor, firmly press your feet to the floor and pull them towards you, do not raise your heels from the floor.
You will notice that below the knee there is a higher area. Find the highest point, put your finger on it and take a starting position.

The point at which you pressed your finger is the point – Zu San Li.

What is this point in our body responsible for and why do the Japanese call it – A point of a hundred diseases?

– It controls the work of the organs that are located in the lower half of the body
– It controls the work of the spinal cord in the parts that are responsible for the proper functioning of the gastrointestinal tract, digestion tract, genital organs, kidneys, adrenal glands.

By massaging the Zu San Li point you can increase the activity of the adrenal glands, the most powerful glands that act as the main defender of human health.

They excrete adrenaline, hydrocortisone and other important hormones into the blood.

If you massage “the point of longevity” every day, you can normalize the work of the adrenal glands, which perform the following functions in the organism:
– Normalization of the blood pressure
– Normalization of the glucose, the insulin
– Elimination of the inflammatory processes in the organism
– Regulation of the immune system
Also, by massaging the Zu San Li point, you can:
– Improve digestion
– Heal diseases of the gastrointestinal tract
– Treat the effects of a stroke

The massaging of this point will help you to increase your confidence, eliminate the stress and tension and find inner harmony.

By massaging this point, you can cure many diseases, including hiccups, constipation, gastritis, incontinence.

How can you affect the “point of longevity”?

It is better to massage the Zu San Li point in the morning, before lunch, 9 times in a circular motion in a clockwise direction on each leg (9 times on one and nine times on the other leg). You should do this for 10 minutes.

Before the beginning of the massage you should take a comfortable, relaxed position (sitting). Calm the breathing and concentrate yourselves on your feelings. Place yourselves in a state of harmony and understanding that you are beginning the healing process. This massage has a stimulating effect.

You can massage the point with your fingers or with any grain (buckwheat, oats, rice, etc …).

Also, you can stick to this point a half of a garlic clove and leave it on for 1-2 hours (until the skin turns red).
The massaging of the Zu San Li point in the evening is suitable for weight loss – they say, 400 to 500 grams per week.

But do not massage it directly before bedtime, because you can cause insomnia.

You can massage the Zu San Li point every day, but the best effect is achieved during the New Moon.

– Eight days after the start of the New Moon, be sure to massage this point in the morning, alternately on each leg in the clockwise direction. This is the best time for a massage in order to strengthen the immunity, improve the work of all organs and slow the aging process.
– Before lunch, alternately on each leg, in the clockwise direction, in order to improve the overall tone, the memory, the work of the cardiovascular system and the digestive system.
– After lunch, simultaneously on both legs – against stress, nervousness and irritability, against headaches and sleep disorders.

In the evening, massage it in the counterclockwise direction, alternately on each leg, in order to improve the metabolism and help the weight loss.

Try it!
